Let’s face it. We all love a good travel yarn. With this in mind, our mates at Supreme Caravans recently ran a series of commercials on 3AW based on people’s travel experiences. Twelve commercials rotated over the campaign under the guise ‘Some of us go on a holiday, others seek adventure, but with every place we visit, memories are made.’
We don’t like to play favourites, but the listeners to the station loved one of the travel stories so much, we thought we’d post it here.
“The first caravan Bert and his wife owned was called Bertha. Big Bertha.
He remembered back to when they first towed her. Proud as punch they hit the road, destination
overnight at the Goondiwindi Tourist Park.
Arriving around dusk, they found their site and started to reverse Big Bertha into position.
Bert went back and forth, back and forth, like a tooth-nail saw cutting through a lump of wood……
attracting quite a crowd.
He goes on to say it took a dozen or so goes before Big Bertha was finally in position.
He jumped out of the 4 wheel drive to thunderous applause from fellow vanners,
shook hands with his new friends, then downed a well deserved cold frothy.”
How many people in the caravan community can relate to that story? Reversing a caravan into position for the first time can be a daunting experience, and let’s face it, you don’t want to be the free entertainment in the park. “To the left. No, no the other way.” This can end up with, “Then get out and do it yourself!”
Thank you, Bert, for sharing your story.
